A consultation is with your veterinarian is the first step in diagnosing a problem, treating an illness or providing preventative medicine. Your pet will be weighed and given a thorough examination. Any concerns that you have, or health issues that are discovered, will be discussed in depth and a treatment plan formed. Some health problems require a revisit consultation for follow-up. This ensures that illnesses are closely managed and allows evaluation of treatment programs.
At myvet Strathfieldsaye, we have a full surgical suite with modern anaesthetic machines, respiratory monitors and more. Many tumours, internal diseases, bone fractures and joint problems require extensive surgery. We pride ourselves on maintaining up-to-date techniques and knowledge and have a range of specialised equipment at our disposal to complete these more complex surgeries. In some instances, very complex surgeries may be performed by a visiting surgeon.
We understand bringing your cat to the vet is stressful - and not just for the cat! We have a dedicated cat waiting area, with relaxing pheromone sprayed cage covers and a darkened hiding area, as well as a cat consulting room set up specific to the needs of our feline friends. We encourage clients to call prior to their appointment for advice on how to make their cat's visit as stress free as possible.
Just like your teeth, your pet’s need looking after too. The health of their teeth and gums has a significant impact on the overall quality of their life. Our experienced veterinarians can detect any dental issues in your pet in a normal consultation and can advise on the necessary treatment and prevention options available. Our state of the art dental x-ray machine allows us to diagnose and treat diseases that may be hidden under gums. We also offer free dental checks at any time via an appointment.
myvet Strathfieldsaye are pleased to offer avian consultations with Dr Susan, the only vet in Bendigo with post-graduate qualifications in avian medicine. These consultations include a full behavioural and feeding history, complete physical examination and faecal testing to allow Dr Susan to offer expert care and advice.
At myvet Strathfieldsaye, we have an in-house laboratory to perform blood tests, urine and faecal tests and tissue sample examination. This means most testing can be done rapidly while you wait. We also have access to an external laboratory for more in depth evaluation of blood tests, body fluids and body tissues.
Diagnostic imaging is essential in the diagnosis of many internal diseases, fractures, dislocations and joint abnormalities. Our in-house x-ray and ultrasound facilities mean we are able to quickly diagnose problems, particularly in emergency situations.
We recommend that your pets be fully covered against the common viral and bacterial infections that can occur in the community. We currently offer vaccinations annually and triennially, depending on your pet’s requirements. We can vaccinate against kennel cough, distemper, parvovirus and hepatitis in dogs, and in cats we can vaccinate against cat flu, chlamydia, feline AIDS, feline Leukaemia and feline enteritis. Additional vaccines can be ordered in for special needs.

We provide expert advice on selecting a premium quality, life-stage appropriate diet. A wide range of Hills and Royal Canin pet food is available to purchase at the clinic.
